A landmark event, considering that psilocybin \u2014 the active ingredient in magic mushrooms and magic truffles \u2014 was prohibited in Canada in 1974.<\/p>\n

Psilocybin is usually illegal to use in the land of ice hockey champions. That\u2019s because psilocybin, together with other amphetamines and hallucinogens, are classified as a Schedule III drug by the Canadian Drugs and Substances Act<\/strong>. Except, of course, for grow kits, spores, and mycelium, which are still as popular as ever.<\/p>\n

The patient in question, Anthony White<\/strong>, was legally exempted by Health Canada to use psilocybin therapy for his terminal cancer. Now in his forties, White is also the first person in Canada to get psilocybin-assisted treatment in a regulated setting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Psilocybin-assisted therapy was provided to Mr. White by SYNTAC Institute<\/strong>, a Calgary-based nonprofit. Although psilocybin may not cure the cancer itself, the psychedelic drug has given immense relief to Mr. White\u2019s remaining time.<\/p>\n

In 2021, Canbud started to cultivate magic mushrooms on a massive scale<\/strong>, along with processing the fungi, in Westmoreland. They said of their plans for expansion:<\/p>\n

House Bill 1802<\/strong> would give Texas a chance to conduct clinical trials for psilocybin-assisted therapy, once it passes the Senate.<\/p>\n

Scientists have been practically begging for decades to be given bigger budgets. It\u2019s all paid off, it seems!
