Theorists say that the Earth was barren before asteroids crashed onto the surface, spreading life. Psychonaut icon Terence McKenna took it one step further by saying that <strong>psilocybin spores<\/strong> may have also arrived from outer space&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the question. Was McKenna right? Do shrooms and magic truffles actually have an alien origin? Were spores used as probes to detect life in the galaxy? In 1976, he co-wrote the seminal <em>\u201cPsilocybin: Magic Mushroom Grower\u2019s Guide\u201d<\/em> with his brother Dennis McKenna, under the pseudonyms OT Oss and ON Oeric. Terence also came up with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wholecelium.com\/articles\/psychedelic-studies\/stoned-ape-theory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stoned Ape Theory<\/a>, which proposed that our evolution from <em>Homo erectus <\/em>to <em>Homo sapiens<\/em> occurred due to our ancestors eating <strong><em>Psilocybe cubensis<\/em><\/strong> for the first time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What most people don\u2019t know is that McKenna was a huge proponent of the <strong>Psilocybin Panspermia Theory<\/strong>. Terence said that magic mushrooms may be a <em>\u201chighly-intelligent species\u201d<\/em> that came to Earth as spores migrating through space. A fungal species that is now trying to build a symbiotic relationship with the human race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Said McKenna:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-amber-color has-text-color\" style=\"font-size:26px\"><em>\u201cThe mushroom was somehow more than a plant hallucinogen or even a shamanic ally of the classic sort. [Psilocybin] was in fact a kind of intelligent entity \u2014 <\/em><strong><em>not of earth<\/em><\/strong><em>\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted how across aeons of time and space, spore-forming life forms float in the vacuum of space for millions of years<em> \u201cuntil contact is made with a suitable environment\u201d. <\/em>Turns out our humble planet Earth, with its<strong> cattle manure<\/strong> and all manner of <strong>damp soil<\/strong>, served as the perfect candidate for such an event. Psychoactive mushrooms soon began to sprout in early farming communities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McKenna also argued that each spore is an <strong><em>\u201cartifact of an alien intelligence\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, with each mushroom being <em>\u201cengineered\u201d <\/em>as a vessel of alien information. A molecule so unique to shrooms, it doesn&#8217;t have near-relatives spread in other life forms. Not in plants, nor in animals&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only psilocybin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-amber-color has-text-color\"><em>\u201cNow, if you were searching for extraterrestrial thumbprints on the biology of Earth, you would look for <\/em><strong><em>molecules that are unique<\/em><\/strong><em>\u2026 In psilocybin we have a perfect example of this.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-amber-color has-text-color\"><em>\u201cNature doesn\u2019t work like that, folks. Nature builds, always, on what has previously been accomplished. Here\u2019s the process in detail:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-amber-color has-text-color\"><em>\u201cA single mushroom in the sporelization phase can shed up to <\/em><strong><em>3 million spores a<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em><strong><em>minute<\/em><\/strong><em> for up to six weeks. ONE mushroom could do this.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-amber-color has-text-color\"><em>I maintain, that a strategy for extraterrestrial contact carried on by a super technology would take the following form:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-amber-color has-text-color\"><em>\u201cBuild a probe. Give the probe the <\/em><strong><em>ability to replicate itself<\/em><\/strong><em>. Start these probes out from your home planet. The probes replicate, so the volume of the probes stays constant as the volume of space increases.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who knew spores were this adaptable? And in outer freaking space??<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-cyan-blue-color has-text-color\"><em>Deep Purple, Ultraviolet<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To support his claims of spores being able to survive in outer space, McKenna cited the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/psychedelicreview.com\/blue-bruising-psilocybin-mushroom-bluing-reaction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dark blue or deep purple colour<\/a><\/strong> of the <strong><em>Psilocybe cubensis<\/em><\/strong> spore. Scientists say it\u2019s the \u201cideal colour\u201d to protect against <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nceh\/features\/uv-radiation-safety\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ultraviolet radiation<\/a>,<\/strong> a particularly vicious killer in the vast emptiness of space. McKenna also pointed out the<em> P. Cubensis <\/em>spore\u2019s liking for a <strong>cold, high-vacuum environment.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guess what else is terribly cold and high-vacuum? But he spent much more time researching psilocybin \u2014 the psychoactive compound in magic mushrooms and magic truffles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his original panspermia theory, Crick said it was very likely that <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ancient_astronauts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ancient aliens<\/a><\/strong> existed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider it for a moment. Our blue planet is relatively young compared to the massive age of the galaxy. There was enough time, Crick said, for the formation of <em>\u201ctechnological societies elsewhere\u201d <\/em>before the Earth even came to be. And if there\u2019s one bit of alien technology that\u2019s sure to exist, it\u2019s got to be<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Interstellar_travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interstellar travel<\/a>. <\/strong>This time with a teeny-tiny twist&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ancient aliens may have preferred <strong>microorganisms<\/strong> for interstellar travel. Crick said that mushroom spores were the best probes. They could be sent out in large groups at once, and can survive in outer space on their own.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So why Earth, you ask?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No particular reason! The entire galaxy was barren by then, and our planet was simply lucky to get <em>\u201cinfected\u201d <\/em>by the spores sent by the aliens.
