{"id":257257,"date":"2025-11-20T18:55:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T17:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wholecelium.com\/?p=257257"},"modified":"2025-11-20T18:55:02","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T17:55:02","slug":"bryan-johnsons-trip-report-the-journey-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wholecelium.com\/sk\/blog\/bryan-johnsons-trip-report-the-journey-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"Bryan Johnson&#8217;s Trip Report: The Journey Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-size:20px\">Just last week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wholecelium.com\/sk\/blog\/why-bryan-johnson-is-looking-to-magic-mushrooms-in-his-search-for-eternal-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">we reported on Bryan Johnson<\/a><em>, <\/em>the billionaire entrepreneur turned self-imposed guinea pig in his quest for eternal life<em> . <\/em>If you\u2019ve been following the ever-escalating saga you&#8217;ll know that the latest step in his youth-hunt is taking high doses of psilocybin, the psychoactive compound in magic mushrooms.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But he didn&#8217;t <strong>len <\/strong>take almost 5g of <strong>magick\u00e9 huby<\/strong> <em>(which is known as a &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wholecelium.com\/sk\/blog\/by-ste-si-mali-vziat-heroicku-davku-magickych-hub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hrdinsk\u00e1 d\u00e1vka<\/a>!&#8217;)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also<strong> live-tweeted <\/strong>the<strong> whole thing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-different-kind-of-experiment\"><strong>A Different Kind of Experiment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike the rest of us \u2014 who might have our first psychedelic moment in a dorm room or at a festival \u2014Johnson did it in peak biohacker form: under medical supervision, in a legal setting, with a professional facilitator, and with a co-founder <em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katetolo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kate Tolo<\/a>) <\/em>on standby to live-document everything from his water fascination to his salad-based revelations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dose?<br><strong>4.67 grams of magic mushrooms, equating to 24.9 mg of psilocybin<\/strong>, the same range used in modern clinical trials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But unlike how you or I might trip, it was a <em>clinical journey<\/em>. The kind aimed squarely at ego dissolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And by the looks of it, the ego&#8230; dissolved accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ok, here is my trip report from 4.67 grams of magic mushrooms, 24.9 mg of psilocybin. Probably not as you\u2019d expect.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>For someone known for his ironclad routines, chemical precision, and spreadsheets for every bodily function, Johnson\u2019s trip veered in an unexpected direction: <strong>emotion, perception, and connection.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through Tolo\u2019s posts and his later breakdown, we get a glimpse into Johnson 2.0, at least momentarily freed from the quantified-self hamster wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Some highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He became absorbed in <strong>the feel of water<\/strong>, and got&#8230; <em>poetic<\/em> about it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He experienced <strong>child-like sensory wonder<\/strong>, amazed at the texture of a blanket and the novelty of rubbing his fingers together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jeho <strong>heart rate<\/strong> <em>(normally tracked, scrutinised, and interpreted)<\/em> simply\u2026 <em>existed<\/em> without his awareness. This alone seemed revolutionary for him.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He felt an unexpected emotional bond with the internet, declaring: <em>\u201cFeels like family. These views, predictably, set the internet ablaze \u2014 though it&#8217;s good to remember that it can take a little time to separate the psychedelic-insight wheat from the psychedelic-nonsense chaff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the key takeaway wasn\u2019t the hot-button commentary, it was the <strong>tone<\/strong>. Johnson wasn\u2019t positioning himself as the lone architect of a new human future. Sometimes I think you\u2019re right and this whole thing has gotten out of control and I need to chill.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This sent the internet into what can only be described as a collective spit-take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Was the king of quantified optimisation <em>rethinking everything<\/em> after a single mushroom trip?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users chimed in with predictable glee:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cThat\u2019s the psilocybin talking.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cOne mushroom trip and he realised it\u2019s all really not that serious.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cThey tend to open people up to different ways of living.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Suddenly, Bryan Johnson\u2019s <em>\u201cDon\u2019t Die\u201d<\/em> empire looked a little shakier. Or at least, more self-aware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It wasn\u2019t the first hint, either. Not Exactly.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When speculation peaked, Johnson clarified:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m playing with this post, making fun of myself\u2026 this post is play and not serious.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>But if there\u2019s one predictable side-effect of psychedelics, it\u2019s that they often sneak a little introspective truth into the joke drawer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if he\u2019s still fully committed to his journey, something in his tone seemed softer. Less rigid. More open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-bigger-picture-psychedelics-amp-purpose\"><strong>The Bigger Picture: Psychedelics & Purpose<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From a psychonaut perspective, Johnson\u2019s experience echoes what countless psychedelic users report:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A heightened sensory world<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased emotional openness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dissolution of rigid thought patterns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A reevaluation of priorities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ability to laugh at oneself <em>(sometimes for the first time in years!)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Psilocybin isn\u2019t magic in the <em>\u201cinstant enlightenment\u201d<\/em> sense. It\u2019s more like holding a mirror to your inner world.
