Magic Mushrooms and Truffles Have The Same Potency

The mushroom vs. truffle question is itself a potent subject. The assumption tends to be that magic truffles are less strong than magic mushrooms. Perhaps it’s because they are easier to get hold of. A kinda ‘well they must be keeping the really top-shelf stuff away from me’ sort of perspective.

However, there is actually no evidence to support that magic truffles are less potent than magic mushrooms. If we put on our lab coats we can confirm that magic mushrooms and truffles are chemically identical. They are part of the same organism after all, (the mushroom being the fab face of the fungi, and the scelrotia (magic truffle) being the behind-the-scenes powerhouse) so you can safely assume they have the same potency. They both contain the trip-inducing alkaloids including psilocybin, psilocin and baeocystin. However, different strains of magic mushrooms and truffles contain different potencies. A mushroom and a truffle of the same strain will have the same psilocybin content

The Hard Micrograms

1g of fresh magic truffles can contain between 0.75 and 1.75mg of psilocybin. This is based on the tripper’s favorite, the psilocybe Cubensis which is the mushroom and truffle genus we use in our grow kits and fresh magic truffle packs.

You can assume our lowest potency truffle, such as the trusty Mexicana will have around 0.75mg. With each level of potency above you can add 0.25mg of psilocybin. This means, for example, our Qubit and Maakali magic truffles would contain around 1.75mg of psilocybin per gram.

The Higher the Psilocybin, the Higher You Will Be

The higher the mg of psilocybin per gram of magic truffle, the more intense your trip will be. When buying magic truffles from our online store read the descriptions for each truffle carefully. The top potency strains, such as the aforementioned Quibit and Maakali, will emphasize that they are for experienced users only, whereas Mexicana and Pajaritos will say they are the sweet choice for beginners.

In this way the job of working out how much psilocybin is in magic truffles is done for you. Each 15g pack has a potency rating based on the amount of psilocybin within.

Size Matters

As a rule, the truffles inside a package of magic truffles are of pretty uniform size. You can assume that each magic truffle nugget contains the same amount of psilocybin as the other similarly sized nuggets in the pack. If you want to be really precise, you can weigh out each truffle to estimate how many mg of psilocybin is in each one. Nerd points guaranteed!

This ease in which you can work out your desired dosage is perhaps another reason that people tend to think that magic truffles are less potent than magic mushrooms. When you have a clear idea what you are getting, you are less likely to accidentally take a larger dose than you meant to. Additionally, mushrooms come in all shapes and sizes — especially once dried. Unless you’ve nurtured them from your own grow kit, sometimes it’s hard to know how strong they might be.

Therefore, there tend to be less stories and anecdotes of people unexpectedly shooting off into psychedelic space with magic truffles than there are with magic mushrooms. Truffles are more regulated with clear measurements and dosages on the pack — but that doesn’t mean with the right dose you can’t purposefully shoot up into the cosmos too.

Psychedelics are a Lifelong Adventure

We hope this has given you a clearer idea of how to work out the amount of psilocybin in our magic truffles! And, if you’re still a little unsure, it’s best to plump for a slightly lower dose this time, and increase it next time if need be. Honing your psychedelic-self is a lifelong mission, full of mystery and exploration. The key is learning to understand the truffle or mushroom itself, and respecting its power.
